Am Law 100 Firm Makes Global Employee Cuts, Citing Overcapacity
">
We're very sorry to say this, but the Biglaw layoffs are far from over. Rightsizing strikes again as yet another firm slims down its employee head count.
According to a report from the American Lawyer, the firm behind the latest round of layoffs is Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner. After conducting a "comprehensive review of support ratios," the firm -- which brought in $845,190,000 gross revenue in 2022, putting it in 61st place in the most recent Am Law 100 -- is making global cuts among its secretarial and administrative staff, citing excess capacity. Lawyers were not included in BCLP's employee downsizing efforts.
The firm has cut ties with 47 business professionals across all of its offices (34 U.S. employees, as well as 13 employees across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia). Here are additional details:
According to the firm's statement, Bryan Cave's focus on achieving sustainable growth required it to invest in its "people, technology, and brand" in a targeted way to ensure appropriate levels of support across the platform, "prioritizing areas that require the greatest investment." The firm declined to comment further on layoffs.
The firm noted in its statement that those affected by the layoffs will receive "competitive severance benefits, outplacement assistance and resources to facilitate their career transition."
Best of luck to those who are being let go from Bryan Cave.
